Parkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative progressive disorder. A disorder of the central nervous system that affects movement, often including tremors. It affects predominately dopamine-producing neurons in a area of the brain called substantia nigra. The disease starts out slowly and worsens over time. If you have Parkinson’s disease, you may shake and have trouble walking and maintaining your balance. As the disease worsens, you may have trouble talking, sleeping, have mental and memory problems, experience behavioural changes and have other symptoms. Unfortunately, there is no cure for Parkinson’s yet.

But we can help!!!

We at Centre4 Health have clients who suffer with all different conditions including Parkinson’s and at all different stages. We want everyone to know we are here to help and want patients to feel comfortable coming into our clinic with any type of condition. We are professionals with a high level of experience and want to encourage massage as much as possible as we see the benefits of Remedial Massage when our clients leaves the clinic. Remedial Massage helps clients feel that they still can move their body’s and build to control it despite any condition.

Massage helps with;

  • Blood flow
  • improved circulation
  • Improved wellbeing
  • Stimulates body through the skin
  • Reduces depression
  • Relieving muscles that have been overwhelmed and used due to tremors and rigidity muscles
  • Reduces stress and promotes the body to relax
  • Eliminates waste and toxins from body
  • Mental health
  • Improved range of movement
  • Headaches

I asked one of my beautiful clients who suffers from Parkinson’s to provide some insight of how remedial massage has helped her.

‘’In 2012, I was diagnosed with Parkinson Disease. I have found remedial massage irons out tight muscles (one side effect of the condition) improving sleep, rigidly of movement and contributing to overall comfort. Practitioners who take a personal and professional interest in their clients’ well-being individuals, like me – benefit so much from remedial massage. Centre 4 health, in fact, offers a diverse selection of clinicians who practice different approaches so that treatments are tailored to suit individual massage preferences. There are at least 80,000 Australians (more than 27,000 Victorians) who are currently living with Parkinson’s. 30 people are diagnosed every day and 18% of people diagnosed are still of working age (under 65 years). But with therapists like Jordy Ryan, who has a special interest in the benefits of massage for Parkinson’s, enables clients and myself to leave the clinic with renewed energy. Jordy has made me feel comfortable with every treatment she has performed on me over the last 2 years. She goes above and beyond for her clients , and her professionalism never goes unnoticed. She strives to be as helpful as she can, and she certainly knows what she’s doing. I come into the clinic with headaches, and I suffer from very tight hips and shoulders. An hour treatment with Jordy and I leave the clinic floating with no headaches or pain. Thank you Jordy’’
