Shiatsu Massage
A Japanese acupressure technique that uses pressure and stretching techniques
along energy meridians to balance the body’s flow of vital energy and promote
relaxation and healing. It aims to balance the flow of vital energy (qi) within the body, promoting relaxation, reducing stress, and supporting overall health and well-being.
Shiatsu is typically performed with the client remaining fully clothed, allowing for a comfortable and accessible experience. This modality not only helps alleviate physical tension but also fosters emotional release, encouraging a sense of grounding and connection with oneself. By stimulating specific acupoints, Shiatsu can enhance circulation, boost the immune system, and restore energy balance, making it a deeply nurturing and revitalizing therapy.
Hara work in Shiatsu is one of the main focuses as the attention and techniques
directed toward the abdomen, known as the Hara, which is often referred to as the ‘sea of energy’ and is believed to be the source of physical strength, emotional stability, and spiritual well-being.
During Hara work, the practitioner gently places their hands on or around the
abdominal area to assess energy flow, release tension, and stimulate the body’s
natural healing processes. Techniques may include gentle pressing, holding, or
rocking movements that encourage the flow of Qi (vital energy/life force) through the meridians connected to the Hara. This practice helps to deepen relaxation, improve digestion, and restore harmony within the body’s energy system.
Hara work is a vital component of Shiatsu because it cultivates a sense of grounding, stability, and centeredness in the recipient, supporting emotional balance and overall health. By working with this core area, practitioners aim to enhance vitality, resilience, and the body’s innate capacity to heal itself.
