Pilates
Romana's Classical Pilates was developed by Romana Kryzanowska, who was the
protégé of Joseph Pilates. The Classical Pilates method utilizes the system of exercises created by Joseph Pilates, which were based on his extensive studies in anatomy as well as his training in the boxing, fencing, and acrobatics. The Classical method emphasizes the coordination of the mind and body leaving you feeling refreshed and energized.
Romana’s Pilates focuses on finding the muscles of your ‘powerhouse’ and strengthening this area to support your spine. The ‘powerhouse’ includes the abdominal muscles, low back muscles, pelvic floor, muscles around the hips, and the gluteal muscles. Joseph Pilates described the mental coordination of using both the mind and the ‘powerhouse’ as the ‘Art of Contrology’. This encapsulates the six principles of Pilates: Centering, Concentration, Control, Breathing, Flow, and Precision.
If you are suffering from any injuries Romana’s Pilates takes these into account by looking at the body as whole, rather than individual parts. This method encourages strengthening the entire body and exercising from a point of no pain. Pilates will push your mind and body in a ways they may not have been before, but leave you feeling the vast difference.
Consistently attending Pilates classes will allow you to reap the numerous benefits that this form of exercise has to offer. This includes better posture, a strong core, flexibility, muscle tone and an improved sense of well-being. Not only will your body change over the course of your classes you will also feel invigorated after working out! As Pilates said, “You will feel better in ten sessions, look better in twenty sessions, and have a completely new body in thirty sessions.â€
