Cupping
Cupping is a traditional therapy that involves suctioning the skin with glass, plastic, or silicone cups. It helps to improve blood flow, boost immune function, remove toxins, and reduce pain.
Cupping increases blood circulation to the area where the cups are placed. This may relieve muscle tension, which can improve overall blood flow and promote cell repair. It may also help form new connective tissues and create new blood vessels in the tissue. People use cupping to complement their care for a host of symptoms and conditions.
The two main forms of cupping used in our clinic are:
- Dry cupping: a suction-only method where the cups are left in place for about 10 -15 minutes
- Slide cupping: this involves moving suctioned cups around the body after applying oil to massage the desired area
Cupping is used to treat a wide variety of conditions. It may be particularly effective at easing conditions that create muscle aches and pains. After a treatment, there may be some skin pigmentation marks left on the body but these are not bruises and are not in any way harmful. We highly recommend a generous dose of water after a session to keep you hydrated.
You can get cupping therapy as a standalone treatment or as part of a comprehensive Remedial Massage or Myotherapy session. Speak to your therapist to find out if this therapy is suitable for you.
