Case Studies

Case 1 – “I’m struggling to look after my husband”

Client: 71 yr old Female

Presented:

Shoulder, back pain. Underlying stress. Main carer for husband with deteriorating dementia. Also suffered from headaches and exhausted as she had no ability to ‘switch off’ or relax.

What we did to assist:

Helped to relieve excessive muscular tension, developed ways of lifting and supporting herself that didn’t overload her back and shoulder. We also developed some exercises for her that calmed her system down, mainly around small, easy movements and calmer breathing.

Outcome:

After treatment, was more relaxed, sleeping better, headaches completely alleviated, less stressed and better able to assist husband. Shoulder and back now function as a part of her whole self, not on their own, leading to less work and less pain.

Case 2 – “I just want to enjoy my golf again”

Client: 55 yr old Male

Presented:

Lower back pain, general stiffness. Unable to walk for more than 20 mins without needing to stop and rest due to discomfort. Love to play golf put took up to 2 weeks to recover before he could play gain.

What we did to assist:

Worked on freeing up his pelvis and hip joints so that he could walk with greater ease and comfort. Also worked on involving more parts of his body in the twisting action so no one area was overloaded with the work. Developed a 15 minute exercise sequence to prepare his body to play golf.

Outcome:

After treatment, his lower back pain was completely alleviated. Walking as well as he has in 20 years. Able to play golf on a weekly basis without worrying about lingering soreness. Much more confidence in his body.

Case 3 – “I never thought it would hurt so much to sit”

Client: 48 yr old Female

Presented:

Shoulder discomfort, occasional numbness and pins and needles in hands. Works at a desk and experiencing increased discomfort when sitting. Similar issues when driving. Concerns about pain/discomfort affecting ability to do her job.

What we did to assist:

Taught her how to mobilise her shoulders by getting her shoulder blades moving independently from her ribs. Worked on getting her arms more connected to the rest of her body so that that her hands wouldn’t have to work so hard. Taught her different ways of sitting and developed an exercise sequence she could do whilst sitting.

Outcome:

Able to sit much more comfortably than before. Pain has been reduced and hands are able to do the fine work they are designed to do. A lot more confidence in her body and her ability to relieve some of her discomfort on her own.
